ABOUT SUSSEX NEURODIVERSITY PRACTISE
Sussex Neurodiversity Practise was founded by me; Lauren Harris-Mackey after 14 years of teaching a diverse range of children and teenagers. I have worked in state, private and overseas schools, and have experience of SEND settings as well as 1:1 tutoring.
In 2019, I completed my Masters of Science at Birbeck University in Educational Neuroscience, receiving a first class honours for my research paper about dyslexic females and anxiety. Since then, I have continued my masters studies into Specific Learning Difficulties and now hold a level 7 diploma in specialist teaching & assessment and am an accredited tutor with the British Dyslexia Association (BDA).
I am a certified psychometric test user and access arrangements assessor with the British Psychological Society and am now on their Member Committee for the South East. In 2024 I completed my level 3 training course is SEND Law to better support families through the EHCP process.
As a SENDCo (Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator) I have seen the changing landscape of education across the country. I understand the strains of an overloaded system on schools and families who are trying to find answers and get support. A Neurodivergent person myself; I feel strongly that neurodiversity must be advocated and championed in order for all young people to have an equal stake in future society. In order to do that, true support needs to be in place. This is where Sussex Neurodiversity Practice comes in…
