The Sussex Neurodiversity Practice is a contemporary service that combines Neuroscience, Specialist Teaching and Psychology to provide assessments, consultancy and tutoring. Founded by Lauren Harris-Mackey, an experienced teacher, SENDCo and Educational Neuroscientist, the Sussex Neurodiversity Practice can offer vital practical support in understanding your child’s way of learning in a setting that does not view differences as deficits.

MY METHOD

  • CONSULTANCY

The journey towards understanding your child always starts with an open and honest discussion. As an experienced SENDCo, I understand the importance of liaising with your child’s school in order for their needs to be met in their everyday setting.

  • ASSESSMENT

At The Sussex Neurodiversity Practice, I combine Educational Neuroscience, Psychology and Specialist Teaching to carefully assess the complexities of each child. This results in a “Cognitive Profile” which will clearly explain your child’s abilities, differences and any underlying difficulties (including diagnosis if appropriate).

  • SPECIALIST TUTORING

A “Cognitive Profile” or other assessment will give specific recommendations in how to support your child’s educational journey. This can be used by class teachers, tutors and yourselves as parents. Specialist tutoring can also be delivered by me to improve target areas found in the assessment or other reports/information provided. See the services section to find out more.

  • “A big thank you to Lauren Sussex Neurodiversity Practice for delivering a full days Training update to all our Superstar staff on Autism. Really detailed, informative and interesting session - would highly recommend.”

  • “We met with the SENCO and William's class teacher on Tuesday, they had both read your report which made such a difference to the meeting. I thought you would like to know that they both commented that the report was easy to read and that the majority of the recommendations would be achievable as they were realistic expectations for school. It was the first time that school have taken our concerns seriously and actually agreed to give William some specific support around his spelling, writing and memory related issues so we can't thank you enough, the report was invaluable!”

  • “Thank you for helping Aanya in her studies. She has made good progress and has come up the curve very well in both english and maths. She has started the new class well and is enjoying school. I thought you'd be happy to know that all the hard work and amazing support you provided yielded successful results for both schools.”

  • “Thank you so much for your time this morning and for getting back to us so quickly. Jamie said this morning was brilliant and so much fun so thank you, he feels really special for having had this time with you. It's great to feel listened to, we really hope now with your report we will be able to encourage school to provide the support Jamie requires to meet his learning needs."

  • “Thank you so much for your time yesterday, it was really invaluable for us. It was the first time we have felt truly listened to and have understood what might be going on with our daughter”

  • "Just to say Amelia is always so happy and encouraged after sessions with you and we wanted to share how grateful we are for your support. I know she gets nervous about homework at times but she really wants to do well and make you proud. Thank you for being so flexible and sensitive!
